AHIMA's FORE
Scholarships
AHIMA's Foundation of
Research and Education (FORE) offers merit scholarships to
outstanding undergraduate students pursuing degrees in
health information administration and health information
technology who have at least one full semester (six or more
hours) of classes remaining in their course of study at the
time the award is granted in August. Scholarships are also
available to credentialed health information management
(HIM) professionals pursuing graduate degrees in an area
related to HIM practice.
Applications are now
being accepted for the 2007 FORE Merit Scholarships—please
share this notice with your staff or others at your
organization whose continued advancement you wish to
encourage.
Applicants must:

Be members of AHIMA
-
Be accepted for
enrollment in an approved program of study
-
Be taking a minimum
six hours per semester or eight hours per quarter in
pursuit of a degree

Have a cumulative
GPA of 3.0/4.0
-
Have one full
semester remaining at the time of award (award date is
August 2007)

ALYSON BROWNING
Alyson is currently a student at Marshall University and will graduate from the HIT program in July. She originally began her studies in Law, but found the HIT program more suited to her career goals. She has her Certified Coding Specialist and Administrative Assistant degrees. She also has an Associates Degree in Medical Transcription. She plans to stay in West Virginia and hopes to work at a medical facility in Charleston. Her future goal is to see healthcare become more convenient and effective for patients in WV. She is working in a Dermatology office where her duties include billing and coding. As one of her references say “Alyson is a role model to other students and a great joy in class”. Her enthusiasm will propel her in any future endeavors that she will attempt.
SHEENA BALL
Sheena is currently a student at Marshall University and will graduate in December 2006. She was originally in the Nursing program but liked the administrative side of healthcare therefore she chose to enroll in the HIT program. She has been named to the Dean’s List and was in the Honor Society in High School. She wishes to take the RHIT and CCS exams upon graduation. Her future career goals include obtaining a position as a Medical Records Coding Analyst. “She provides great leadership skills and is very responsible with tasks at hand” per one of her excellent references.
JENNIFER CAMPBELL
Jennifer is currently a student at Fairmont State University. Her expected graduation date is May 2007. She transferred from the HIT program at Boise State University when her and her husband moved back to West Virginia. She worked at West Virginia University Hospital as a Dietetic Assistant, but resigned when she wanted to focus on her studies. She wishes to continue her education by obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Informatics. She will be the first member in her immediate family to graduate with a college degree. Her future goals include becoming an Educator for a HIT program. One past Manager is quoted as saying that “She assumes the leadership roles and performs them very well”. |
