Introduction:

The West Virginia University Health Sciences Center and the School of Medicine, (Human Performance department) seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenure track position.

The Health Informatics/Information Management is seeking a full-time faculty member to work on-site with the Program Director in teaching HIIM courses, preparing the program for accreditation, and preparing students for successful careers in the profession.

WVU Healthcare is a 645 bed hospital system, providing advanced care and tertiary referral services including pediatrics, mental health and cancer care, among its signature service lines.

The Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center has a full complement of academic programs in the clinical and basic sciences. Morgantown, WV is located just over an hour south of Pittsburgh, PA and three and one-half hours from Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. Morgantown offers culturally diverse, large-city amenities in a safe, family-like setting. There is an excellent school system and an abundance of recreational opportunities.

Job Description:

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate HIIM courses, participation in accreditation processes, advising undergraduate students, and other responsibilities as required by the Program Director.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • Master’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare/Business Administration, Leadership, or related field
  • Minimum of 1 year experience teaching in higher education
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Understanding of the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) accreditation processes and protocols
  • Professional membership in the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Professional experience of 2 years or more in fields relevant to this position

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications are:

  • Minimum of 1 year previous experience teaching HIIM course work
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in fields relevant to this position
  • Evidence of scholarly activity (i.e. conference presentations, published work, etc.).
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty and staff.
  • Able to use an array of technology tools including databases, Microsoft office suite, social networking and database programs.

Education Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare/Business Administration, Leadership, or related field
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
